A Week Full of Learning and Fun In Pre-K!

Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! Our week in Pre-K was filled with exciting learning adventures, including counting, letters, science, and art. The children had a wonderful time exploring new concepts, participating in hands-on activities, and learning through play. Let’s take you through some of the highlights from our week…

Large Group

This week's large group was filled with fun, curiosity, learning new things, and growing together. We started our large group with our daily calendar helper, followed by revising the letters and talking about shapes. We discussed what 3D shapes are, revised the previous shapes, and introduced new shapes, which were the pyramid and cuboid. The students were excited to relate the 3D shapes to everyday materials, like a cuboid looking like a box, a cone looking like a party hat, and a sphere looking like a ball. Our caterpillar is also growing, and our children are feeding it a number every day.

Science

This week in our science class, we continued to learn about food. In our first session, we learned about unhealthy foods. First, we revised what we learned last week about healthy foods, (food that is good for our body, gives us energy, and helps us grow). Then, we discussed unhealthy foods, (foods that are not good for us if we eat them all the time, but that we can have occasionally). Then, our children sorted food groups into healthy and unhealthy foods with food toys, following the picture of how our body responds when we eat healthy and unhealthy food.

In our second session, we revised what healthy and unhealthy foods are, and the children cut different food groups and sorted the pictures into healthy food and unhealthy food. Using glue, they pasted them under the right group.

Literacy

This week in our literacy class, we learned new letters (z, w, j, q, x, y and v) . In our first session, we revised the previous letters with their sounds and pictures with their beginning sounds. The children were excited to answer and do the Zoo Phonics actions. They were also trying to come up with their own words!

In our second session, to make learning letters more fun, we took our class outside and fished for the letters. We prepared a small pool, filled it with water, and put the letters inside. By using a fishing rod, the children fished for different letters. Then, they excitedly said the sound the letters made when they caught them with their fishing rod.

Math

This week in our math class, our students practiced writing numbers independently. In our first session, we practiced writing numbers in write-and-wipe pockets. The students were excited to write the numbers on their own, asking when they couldn't remember or couldn't write them. They were also writing by looking at the numbers that they always count on our board.

In our second session, we continued practicing writing numbers, and this time, we wrote the numbers on a light box. By putting sand on a plate, the students practiced writing the numbers with their fingers on the box. It was a texture adventure, and the whole class had a blast!

Art

In our art class, our students connected their artistic explorations with our science topic of healthy and unhealthy foods. They then labeled them as healthy and unhealthy. We appreciate how each student expressed their learning in their own unique way! While they were drawing, they were also joyfully discussing among themselves what foods are good for them and what foods aren’t good for them.
