Dear Parents,
Firstly, we want to extend our gratitude to each member of our LE community. As we wrap up our last week of the academic year, we’re reflecting on all the wonderful memories we’ve had and none of it would be possible without you! Our Early Pre-K learners wrapped up the final week of the academic year with a spirit of curiosity, creativity, and growth! Each day featured engaging, hands-on experiences that turned learning into a joyful adventure. Through activities in math, clay modeling, and literacy, children explored concepts in fun and meaningful ways. These playful moments helped enhance their cognitive abilities, number recognition, and vocabulary development.
Large Group
This week’s large group time was lively and full of ideas! We focused on the letter “P,” searching for it in words throughout the classroom, practicing its sound, and discovering new “P” words through interactive play. During our morning message, the children enthusiastically counted numbers 10 to 20 on the board, strengthening both their numerical understanding and fine motor coordination. In math, we focused on the number 18 using finger counting and hands-on measurement activities. In addition to our daily routine activities, we had watched a movie that's one of our Sprit Week!
Math
In our most recent math session, our children engaged in a hands-on activity that not only reinforced their understanding of measurement concepts but also fostered their critical thinking skills and teamwork. During the session, the children were given a set of blocks of varying lengths. They were tasked with measuring each block using rulers and determining whether the block was 'long' or 'short'. This simple yet effective activity allowed the children to apply their knowledge of measurement in a practical way, enhancing their grasp of the concept.
As the children worked together to measure and sort the blocks, they engaged in lively discussions, sharing their reasoning and learning from one another. This collaborative approach not only deepened their understanding of measurement but also reinforced the importance of working together towards a common goal. Through this activity, the children not only practiced measuring and comparing lengths but also honed their observation skills, logical thinking, and communication abilities. They were able to apply mathematical concepts in a real-world context, making learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
Literacy
In this week's literacy session in our class, we introduced the concept of rhyming words to the children in a fun and interactive way. The children were engaged and enthusiastic as they learned about words that end with the "at" sound, such as cat, mat, and rat. Through the use of letter flashcards, they were able to create their own rhyming words and explore the world of language in a creative and hands-on way.
The session began with an introduction to the concept of rhyming words. The children were shown examples of words that end with the "at" sound, and they eagerly participated in identifying and repeating these words. They were quick to catch on and understand the similarities in the ending sounds of these words.
After familiarizing themselves with rhyming words ending with "at," the children were given letter flashcards to work with. They were encouraged to use the flashcards to create their own rhyming words. As they flipped through the letters and experimented with different combinations, their creativity shone through, and soon the room was filled with words like rat, hat, and bat.
Clay
In this week’s clay session for the children, where they were given the opportunity to create their own imaginative worlds using clay. The results were nothing short of phenomenal, with each child showcasing their unique perspective and creativity.
The session began with the children being handed a block of clay, and they were encouraged to let their imagination run wild. It was truly heartwarming to see how each child approached the task with such enthusiasm and creativity. From police cars to trucks, from lasagna to delicious pizzas, the children's creations knew no bounds.
Activities like these are crucial in nurturing children's creativity and helping them develop important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-expression. By encouraging children to explore their imagination and express themselves through art, we are helping them build confidence and develop a love for learning.
