An Awesome Week in Early Pre-K

Dear Parents,

This week has been full of fun and exploration in our Early Pre-K class! The children have been diving into new math concepts, discovering exciting stories during reading time, and unleashing their creativity with clay and art work. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they learn and create. A reminder that tomorrow (Saturday October 26) will be our first family day of the year, and the theme is international day. Please see the flyer we sent in the group chat for more information!

Happy Birthday Alpha

Large group

Over the past week, our early Pre-K class has been focusing on some exciting foundational concepts! We introduced the color purple through finding purple objects in the class, which the children were delighted about. We also explored the pentagon shape.

In addition, we spent time learning about the sound of the letter ‘h’ and the number four ‘8’. The children practiced recognizing the sound of the letter ‘h’ by learning some beginning sounds, like in ‘House, heart, hours, honey’.

As for our morning messages, we extended an ‘ABAB’ pattern on the board and discussed how we can help keep our school clean, which proved to be a very fruitful conversation.

Math

This week in math, our class has been exploring the exciting concept of patterns! Using a variety of colorful materials, including counting bears, cubes, building toys, the children got busy working on their patterns. We practiced extending and creating simple patterns (ABAB). This hands-on activity not only helped reinforce early math skills but also encouraged creativity and critical thinking as they extended existing patterns and built new ones.

Cooperative game

This week the children had an exciting time playing “Duck, Duck, Goose” a classic game that also serves as a great way to practice cooperation and teamwork!

In this game we emphasized working together and supporting one another. The students took turns being the ‘ducker’ and the ‘goose’ and they cheered for each other throughout the game.

Science

Continuing from last week’s topic of keeping our surroundings clean, we had a wonderful time reinforcing this important lesson in our science sessions. We started with a conversation about how we can all help keep our school clean and who helps us to do so. The children showed great enthusiasm discussing ways they could contribute.

After our chat, we took the learning outdoors! The children took on the responsibility of wiping down the tables to get them ready for snack time. They really embraced this task feeling a sense of ownership in caring for their environment.

We also made sure to acknowledge and thank the wonderful helpers who work hard everyday to keep our school clean and safe.

Library

This week in class, we had a meaningful and engaging story time as we read ‘Shades of People’. This beautiful book helps children explore and celebrate the diversity of skin colors, recognizing that while we all have different shades, we are all wonderfully unique and connected.

As we read, we talked about how our differences make us special, yet they do not change the love and respect we share for one another. This message was a great way to connect to our upcoming International Family Day celebration, where we come together to honor our unique backgrounds and cultures.

Clay

We are excited to share that the children had their second clay session today, and it was a wonderful experience for everyone! The students were eager to get their hands back into the clay, feeling its soft, moldable texture and talking excitedly about their creative plans. Some shared ideas of what they wanted to sculpt-whether it was animals, shapes, or imaginative objects- and it was amazing to see their creativity in action!
