Another Week of Wonder In Pre-K!
Dear parents,
We hope this blog finds you well. Here in the Pre-K class, our week was filled with learning adventures including topics such as counting, letters, and exploring various aspects of science and art. Let’s take you through some more details of our week…
Large Group
Our large group sessions were full of fun, sharing, and learning this week! We started each morning with our calendar helper and shared stories about our weekends. We revised the letters S, A, T, P, I, N and C, K, D, M, E, R, H and their sounds, practiced counting to 20, and explored rhyming words, colors, and shapes. We also introduced 3D shapes and explored how 2D shapes can come together to form 3D shapes. The children were curious, engaged, and excited to participate and share their ideas!
Literacy
This week in literacy, we focused on revising the letters and sounds we learned over the past two weeks. In our first session, we revised S, A, T, P, I, N and their corresponding sounds. The children also practiced matching pictures with their beginning sounds. They enjoyed looking at the pictures, thinking about the sounds they could hear at the beginning of each word, and finding the letter that matched.
In our second session, we revised the second group of letters: C, K, D, M, E, R, and H, along with their sounds. The children once again practiced matching pictures with the correct beginning letter sound.
Repeating and revisiting these letters is helping the children strengthen their recognition and sound awareness. It was lovely to see them becoming more confident as they remembered the letters and their sounds.
Math
This week in math, we focused on counting and number recognition. Each student had the opportunity to practice counting up to 20. We also counted and wrote our caterpillar numbers each morning. This daily practice is helping the children become more familiar with numbers, their order, and how they are written.
In our second session, we practiced tracing numbers. The children carefully followed the numbers with their pencils, giving them an opportunity to practice both number recognition and pencil control. Tracing also supports the development of their fine motor skills and handwriting.
The children enjoyed practicing their numbers and were excited to show us what they could do. With regular practice, they are becoming more comfortable and confident with number formation.
Science
This week in science, we began exploring our body parts. In our first session, we talked about different parts of the body and discussed what we use each one for. The children were encouraged to name the body parts and share what they already knew about them. We also sang songs about body parts, which made the learning active, fun, and engaging.
In our second session, the children had the opportunity to draw body parts using their own imagination. After completing their drawings, they shared their ideas with the class, explaining which body part they had drawn and what we use it for.
It was wonderful to see the different ideas and drawings the children came up with. This activity encouraged their creativity while also helping them develop body awareness and understand the important roles different body parts have.
