Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well. We’re excited to share our weekly highlights with you! Read on for a look at our children's fun activities, discoveries, and special moments from this week.

Large Group

During our large group time, we gathered together in a circle and started with our Good Morning song. We then talked about different topics before checking the weather. The children enjoyed singing our weather song and choosing the matching weather picture on the board.

We also took attendance and then read the book This Is Not Mine and This Is Mine. The story helped the children learn about sharing materials and practicing what to say when they need something and when someone gives them something. It was an engaging and meaningful large group session, and the children enjoyed participating in the discussion and story.

Small Group

Monday- Gymnastics

During our Monday gymnastics small group session, we continued practicing an activity that we had introduced in a previous session. The children lay down on the mat, picked up the hula hoops, and carefully placed them on the chair. This activity was a little challenging for them, as it required them to coordinate their movements and maintain control while reaching and lifting the hoops. However, they were very interested and eager to participate. They listened to instructions, tried their best, and encouraged themselves as they practiced. The children stayed engaged throughout the activity, and had a blast!

Tuesday - Literacy

This week’s literacy activity was sensory-based and highly engaging. We used two simple materials: clothespins and pipe cleaners. To make the activity more manageable, we cut each pipe cleaner in half and bent it slightly so that the children could pick it up more easily.

The children worked in pairs and used the clothespins to pick up the pipe cleaners. This activity was a big challenge for them because it required concentration, hand-eye coordination, and fine-motor control. They had to carefully open and close the clothespin while trying to grasp the pipe cleaner without dropping it.

The children were very engaged and excited to participate. They practiced using their finger muscles, developed their focus, and strengthened the coordination between their hands and eyes. Working in pairs also encouraged them to take turns, observe one another, and support each other during the activity.

Although the task was challenging, the children continued trying and showed great determination. They were proud of themselves when they successfully picked up the pipe cleaner. This simple activity provided a fun and meaningful way for them to build important early literacy and fine-motor skills while enjoying hands-on learning.

Thursday- Science

Our science activity this week was another sensory delight- exploring shaving cream. We placed a table on our grass area and set out art mats. The children were excited to see what we were going to do. We explained the activity and put shaving cream on the table for the children to touch and explore. They enjoyed feeling the shaving cream and were happy to mix it with red food coloring. As they mixed it, they noticed that the shaving cream turned pink and excitedly talked about the color.

Work Time

Tuesday – Art: Red Stamping

For our art activity, we explored stamping using the color red and a variety of different materials. The children were given the opportunity to choose the materials they wanted to use and experiment with different ways of stamping.

The whole class was delighted as they discovered that each material created a different shape, pattern, or mark. The children enjoyed trying new techniques and using their creativity to create their own unique artwork. This activity encouraged creativity, choice-making, fine motor skills, and sensory exploration.

Thursday – Library

Our library session was a lovely time for exploring and enjoying books. Some of the children brought their library folders from home, while others did not. We encouraged the children to read their library books together with their parents at home.

It was wonderful to see that some children remembered and identified the books they had previously taken home. When we invited them to choose a book to take home, they proudly showed us the books they recognized. This showed their growing interest in books and their connection between home and school reading.
