Exploration, Creating and Learning Together in Preschool!
Dear Parents,
We are excited to share this week’s learning highlights! Our children explored measurement, a sink and float activity, books, creative art, journaling, and more. We hope you enjoy reading about their wonderful learning experiences!
Happy Birthday Emilia and Aida!
Large Group
We began our large group session by forming a big circle and coming together as a class. The children shared about their morning routines, including what they had for breakfast, whether they washed their faces, and whether they brushed their teeth. We then sang our Good Morning Song, discussed the weather and days of the week, and took attendance.
We also read a book and reviewed our preschool rules. The children talked about what they can and cannot do at school and discussed the importance of using polite words and being kind and respectful to their friends and teachers. Large group sessions are a valuable time for children to share their ideas, practice communication and listening skills, wait for their turns, and learn from one another. It also helps us begin our daily activities in a positive and organized way.
Small Group Activities
Math
This week, our math activity focused on measurement concepts such as heavy and light, big and small, and long and short. The children explored familiar classroom materials and used their hands to compare different objects. We provided wooden blocks, soft blocks, short and long rulers, big and small pom-poms, ribbons, yarn, and empty and full water bottles. The children enjoyed holding and comparing the materials and sharing their observations. They did a wonderful job understanding the concepts of heavy and light, short and long, and big and small. We will continue exploring measurement concepts next week. To connect with our learning, we also enjoyed singing “Open, Shut Them”.
Science
Building on our understanding of heavy and light, we explored the concepts of sink and float. The children made predictions and tested different objects in water to see what would happen. We used materials such as soft blocks, cotton, leaves, rocks, plastic spoons, metal forks, grass, paper, pinecones, dinosaurs, and pom-poms. The children carefully placed the objects into the water, observed the results, and shared whether each object sank or floated. They were very focused and excited to make their own discoveries. It was a wonderful hands-on science experience!
Library
During our library session, our students had the opportunity to choose their favorite books. They sat comfortably, turned the pages, explored the pictures, and shared what they noticed. The children also connected the pictures and stories to their own experiences and ideas. After exploring the books, they chose a book to take home. It was wonderful to see their excitement and interest in books.
Art
In our art session, the preschool class explored an innovative art making technique: blowing paint through a straw. First, we talked about their favorite colors and allowed each child to choose their preferred paint colors. We provided paper, paint, and new straws. The children carefully opened their straws, placed the paint on their paper, and used their straws to blow and spread the paint, creating unique designs.
After blowing the paint, they added glitter to make their artwork shiny and special. Each child created a different and beautiful piece of art, and we were happy to see their creativity and imagination shine!
Literacy
During our literacy session, the children explored journaling. We provided paper and crayons and invited them to draw their ideas and thoughts. After drawing, each child had the opportunity to explain their picture to the class. They shared their ideas one by one, allowing us to learn more about their interests, experiences, and the things they love. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to express themselves through drawing and language.
