Weekly Blog: Early Preschool and Preschool

Dear parents,

We had a fun and exciting week; The playground was finally open for us this week. We had such an enjoyable time by climbing on the mountain, playing merry go round and swinging and sliding on the big play structure.

We all were also busy practicing the Ethiopian traditional song 'Abebayehosh' for the coming Monday, Meskel( Demera) program that we hope you will attend!

What did we do this week?

We start our Large group by singing the good morning song and other enjoyable songs like ‘If you are happy and you know it', 'Baby shark' and 'Abebayehosh'.

Story time: This week’s story time book is titled ‘Little Lion Shares’ While reading the book, we encouraged the children to look at the pictures, and share their own ideas about what the story could be about.

During our Cooperative Games Day, we played a game called ‘Musical dots’. The game went like this: The number of people who will play the game are counted. Dots/carpet squares, one less than the number of players, are arranged in a circle.

● One person, apart from those playing the game, stands at the music system. He/ she plays and abruptly stops the music anytime.

● The players start walking around the dots when the music is on.

● The moment music stops, all the players try to stand on the nearest dot.

● The player left standing is out of the game.

● Again, the music starts and the whole process is repeated, till only one person is left standing on a dot.

The person left standing on a dot at the end of the game is the winner. This is a great way to introduce to songs to students. We must say that our class did a wonderful job listening to the rules of the game and most of all had so much fun dancing and playing with their friends.

This week for Literacy we start to do our first Journals. All the children tried to make their story in their journal book as they wanted to, they were drawing pictures like gifts for their families, some of them were decorating their books.

And during our Science activity, we continued our exploration with our sense organs. This week was all about Tasting! For this activity we used different fruits like Banana, Strawberry, and Lemon. we use our tongue to taste all these fruits! The banana was sweet to eat, the strawberry was somehow sour, but the lemon gave us silly faces while tasting it!

During our Art class, we were busy drawing numbers on papers using different markers that we chose. We have been learning both math and working on our art skills at the same time. Art goes with everything!!

During our math class, we worked on numbers! We were counting and matching the numbers by using blocks (plastic and Wooden) and bears. The children were excited to match the numbers with the exact number of the bears and blocks. Counting developed our critical thinking!!

During our library day, we all were excited to read!! In the library we discuss about the rules that we use in the library and we were reading different books. Some kids are interested in science books where some kids like to read story. we read one book together as a group that the children enjoyed .A book chosen by the kids is sent to home so that parents are supposed to read with their kid.
