Dear parents,

It’s been a wonderful week full of hands-on learning and joyful discovery. The children have been deeply engaged in activities that sparked their curiosity and creativity. In science, they explored float and sink experiments—testing, predicting, and observing with so much excitement. In math, they went on a playful hunt to find hidden numbers, turning learning into a fun challenge. In art, inspired by one of our favorite songs, they began creating their very own hot air balloons—a messy, imaginative, and proudly shared project!

Large group

During large group time, the children were full of excitement as they shared stories about their weekends and proudly talked about the canvases they received from the art auction. It was such a joy to see how enthusiastic they were!

We also took some time to review many of the 2D and 3D shapes we’ve been learning. The children did a great job recalling shape names and their attributes.

As part of our literacy work, we’ve been having fun with rhyming words! This week, we focused on words that rhyme with house. The children came up with creative rhymes like mouse, louse, and even a made-up word, and they had so much fun doing it!

Math

This week, our math session was a blast, and everyone was beyond excited! We did a number hunt. After explaining what we were going to do, we took the children outside and hid from them. Then, we hid all the numbers up to 20 in different places inside the Pre-K class. After that, we called them back in and encouraged them to find the numbers. When they found a number, they shouted it out loud. They were thrilled, especially when they found numbers at the same time as their friends. They even had a competition to see who could hold up the number first and say it. This part was so much fun, as they raced to the numbers and claimed them as their own. We played three rounds of hide and seek with the numbers. They also asked if we could hide the numbers for them to find again. This activity helped them identify and call out numbers.

Literacy

This week in our literacy session, we did two different activities. In the first session, the class played a musical game focused on blending two letters and CVC words. We took the children outside and set up a table, placing CVC words and flashcards with blended letters around it. Then, we played music, and they walked around the table. When the music stopped, everyone grabbed the flashcard they spotted, and then they read them one by one. During this time, they moved around a lot and read different flashcards from various spots. This was so much fun, as every child practiced reading through a game and music.

In the second session of literacy, the class did "Show and Tell". This idea stemmed from the fact that most children would bring a toy from home and ask if they could play with it during free choice time. We then suggested that they could do a Show and Tell with their favorite toy, and everyone agreed with great excitement.

On the day of the event, everyone brought their favorite toy and placed it at the front of the class. We played a classical piano piece in the background, and they really loved that moment. While waiting for their turn, each child sat in a chair and took turns showing and talking about their toy.

This activity helped our children build confidence in speaking in front of their peers, learn to be respectful of others, and practice waiting their turn until everyone had finished. After each presentation, their friends would ask questions about the toys, allowing for back-and-forth conversations.

Everyone was excited to present themselves and their favorite toys in front of their friends. Finally, when everyone had finished, they played by sharing their toys with one another.

"I bought this from Japan from the pokemon shop" Riley

"Dino, T-Rex" Samuel

"Umbrella, purple, white, yellow" Ismael

"My mommy buy it for me from Morocco" Alya

"It is a car and it goes faster" Alen

"It has six wheel because it's a truck" Leul

" The toy iPad and I have two like this" Liyat

"Her name is Alya and my grandma but to me" Lielena

" My toy her name is Gabi she can sit, she can turn like this" Hala

Science

This week in science, the class explored the concept of sinking and floating. First, the whole class discussed what it means to float and sink. Everyone pointed out heavy and light objects we had in the classroom and talked about what would happen to those objects in water whether they would sink or float. After ensuring everyone had a good understanding through discussion, we moved on to a practical sink and float activity with water.

We prepared two containers filled with water and different objects: one heavy and one light. Then, each child took turns with their peers to experience the concepts of sinking and floating. The children were very excited about the hands-on activity.

Art

This week in art, we tied our creativity to one of the songs our class has been enjoying lately—“Up, Up, Up,” a cheerful tune about floating in a hot air balloon!

Inspired by the song, we began a special project: creating our own air balloons. Each student got their own balloon. Then, using glue, newspaper, and recycled paper, they began shaping their balloon to form the base. It was a messy, hands-on process, and the students loved every bit of it!

In our next session, students will continue the project by painting their air balloons and creating baskets to complete the look. Everyone was so proud of their work and excited to see their creations take shape—just like in the song!
