One Classroom, Many Cultures, Endless Discoveries!
Welcome to another exciting week in Early Pre-K! We are happy to share the wonderful experiences, discoveries, and learning moments our students enjoyed this week. Let’s take a look at what we learned together!
Happy Birthday Mohammed!
Large Group
In our large group, we greeted each other in our home languages and shared how each of our mornings were going. We placed our pictures on the happy face chart and matched them with our country’s flags. We counted our friends who were present, reviewed the days and months of the year, practiced counting to 20, and recalled the 2D and 3D shapes we learned previously, including sphere.
Small Group
Math
During our first session, we practiced counting and number recognition using number cards. In the second session, we identified different country flags, explored their colors, and matched each flag to the correct one.
Social Studies
During our first session, we explored a large world map on the mat. In the next session, we learned where our countries are located. Each student identified their country, marked its location, and pinned it on the map. We then connected each student’s picture to their country, helping us explore our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Literacy
During our first session, we reviewed the Zoophonics letters and practiced forming them with play dough. In the next session, we explored our culture bags, comparing the items inside and discovering what was similar and different among our classmates' belongings.
Art
We gathered around a large mirror to observe our facial features, hair, and eye colors. Each student then received a paper with half of their face printed on it and practiced drawing the other half, exploring their unique features and creativity. In our next session our students chose yellow and orange to paint their canvases once dry, they added pictures of items from their culture bags, along with photos and the word “Hello” written in their own languages. Each canvas became a colorful representation of their culture and the special items they brought from home.
Library
Our students requested to enjoy story time outdoors, so we visited the library to choose their favorite books. We gathered in a circle under the trees, where everyone explored their books independently before coming together to enjoy a group reading session.
