Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! We had a wonderful week in our Pre-K classroom, filled with meaningful discussions, exciting activities, and opportunities to learn more about our families and cultures.

This week, our learning focused on our upcoming Family Day projects. Since it was a short week, we made the most of our time by exploring different topics related to family, identity, and cultural diversity.

We had several opportunities for meaningful discussions and back-and-forth conversations with our students around the question, “What Is My Family Story?”. Our students shared interesting questions they would like to ask their families about their childhoods and family histories. These conversations encouraged curiosity, storytelling, and a deeper understanding of what makes each family special.

We also explored where each student comes from. Together, we learned about different countries, their flags and colors, traditional foods, dances, and ways to say “hello” and other simple words in different languages. It was exciting to discover the similarities and differences among our cultures and to learn the importance of respecting and appreciating one another. The following day, our students had the opportunity to come to the front of the class and share what they had learned about their countries. Everyone enjoyed listening, sharing, and learning from their friends!

Another highlight of the week was bringing family pictures from home in preparation for our upcoming Family Tree project. Students who brought their pictures enjoyed sharing them with the class and introducing their family members to their friends. This activity created wonderful opportunities for connection, conversation, and appreciation of each student’s unique family.

We also brought our learning to life through a map activity! We placed our students’ country flags around a world map and invited them to find their countries and connect them to the map using pins. We incorporated music into the activity, making it even more interactive, engaging, and fun. Our students enjoyed seeing how their different backgrounds connect us as a classroom community.

Alongside these special activities, we continued to enjoy our daily classroom routines, including our large-group activities, which gave everyone more opportunities to participate, share ideas, and learn together.

As we look forward to next week, we are excited to continue working on our Family Day projects and exploring the beautiful stories that make each family unique.
