Happy Birthday Eonn

Dear Parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! Here in the Early Preschool class, we have had a wonderful week filled with many fun activities! We hope you enjoy reading these updates about what your children have been learning. Please continue to practice communication and fine motor skills at home to help them grow. Thank you for your support!

Large group

Our group session started with our cheerful “hello song,” which helped the children feel welcomed, happy, and ready to begin the day. The children joined in with excitement, singing together and participating beautifully during circle time.

After our hello song, we talked about the day of the week. The children helped move the happy face to the correct day on our daily calendar. We discussed the days together by talking about what comes before and after each day, such as Monday, Tuesday, and the rest of the week. The children were excited to participate and showed growing confidence in recognizing and remembering the days of the week.

We also discussed the weather and talked about the different types of clothes we wear depending on the weather. The children shared their ideas about what we wear when it is sunny, rainy, or cold, which encouraged communication and thinking skills. They enjoyed talking about their own clothes and experiences related to the weather.

After that, we took attendance together, giving each child the opportunity to respond and feel included as part of the group. The children listened carefully and were excited to hear their names during attendance time.

During story time, we read the book Big Sister, and the children listened with great attention and interest. They enjoyed looking at the pictures, talking about the story, and sharing their thoughts. Story time helped support their listening, language, and comprehension skills.

We also practiced counting by counting the pictures shown on the board together. The children actively joined in while recognizing and counting numbers aloud. We talked about different animals as well, encouraging the children to identify and name them confidently.

To finish our session, we reviewed the days of the week once again and continued practicing counting numbers together. The children participated enthusiastically throughout the whole session and showed wonderful listening, communication, counting, and social skills.

Literacy

During our literacy session, the children participated in a very exciting and interactive listening activity. We hid a speaker in different places around the classroom and played different animal sounds for the children to listen to carefully. The children were very curious and excited as they listened closely and tried to identify which animal they could hear. They confidently shared their ideas by saying things like, “this is a cat!” and “this is a dog!” while searching around the room for the hidden speaker.

The activity encouraged the children to use their listening and observation skills while moving around the classroom. They were running, exploring, focusing, and carefully paying attention to every sound they heard. The children showed great excitement and enthusiasm throughout the session, and it was wonderful to see how engaged they were in the activity.

This literacy activity supported the development of listening skills, sound recognition, concentration, communication, and gross motor development. It also encouraged the children to think carefully, respond confidently, and work together while learning through play. The classroom was filled with laughter, movement, and excitement!

Art

Our art session was colorful and creative!. During our previous session, the children worked on creating the background for their canvas artwork. This time, we continued the activity by adding a new and exciting texture art experience using cotton, paint, and hammers.

The children first explored different paint colors and carefully chose the ones they wanted to use. They dipped the cotton into different paints and placed the colorful cotton pieces onto the canvas. After that, they used small hammers to gently hammer the cotton onto the canvas, creating beautiful prints, textures, and patterns. The children were very excited to see how the colors spread and mixed on their artwork.

Throughout the session, the children were fully engaged, focused, and happy. They enjoyed experimenting with colors, textures, and movements while expressing their creativity in their own unique ways. It was wonderful to watch them confidently make choices and explore the materials independently.

This activity supported many important developmental skills. Using the hammers helped strengthen their fine motor skills and hand muscles, while carefully placing and hammering the cotton improved their hand-eye coordination and focus. The activity also encouraged creativity, imagination, and problem-solving as the children explored different ways to create designs on their canvas.

Everyone participated with great enthusiasm, and the classroom was filled with smiles, curiosity, and creativity. We are very proud of the children for their amazing effort and the beautiful artwork they created.

Gymnastics

Our gymnastics session was full of excitement, energy, and sparkling smiles. Before starting the main activity, we began with different warm-up exercises to prepare our bodies and help the children feel active and ready. The children enjoyed stretching, moving, and getting their muscles warmed up before beginning the gymnastics course.

For the activity setup, we placed chairs on opposite sides with hula hoops in between, and a ladder at the front. The children first practiced climbing carefully on the ladder, which helped them build strength, balance, and coordination. After climbing, they continued by stepping and walking through the hula hoops while holding two balls in their hands. This made the activity more challenging because they had to focus on balancing their bodies while carrying the balls at the same time.

Even though the activity was challenging, the children did an amazing job. They showed confidence, determination, and great concentration while completing each step. It was wonderful to see how much their gross motor skills and body flexibility have developed. They were able to move their bodies with more control, balance, and coordination compared to before.

Throughout the session, the children participated in different gymnastics movements and activities that encouraged physical development, body awareness, and confidence. Everyone was excited, engaged, and proud of their achievements. We are so happy to see their progress and the way they continue to grow stronger and more confident every day.

Ethiopian Center

During our Ethiopian Center pretend play session, the children had a wonderful opportunity to explore and celebrate Ethiopian culture through music, movement, and imaginative play. The children dressed up in beautiful traditional Ethiopian clothes and were very excited to see themselves and their friends wearing the cultural outfits. They proudly showed their clothes, smiled with excitement, and enjoyed pretending and playing together.

As traditional Ethiopian songs were played, the children happily danced, moved their bodies, and followed the rhythm of the music. They enjoyed practicing different dance movements, clapping, and expressing themselves freely through music and movement. The classroom was filled with joy, laughter, and excitement as the children danced together and celebrated the culture in a fun and meaningful way.

The pretend play activity encouraged the children to use their imagination, creativity, and social skills while interacting with their friends. They communicated with each other, shared the materials, and participated confidently throughout the session. It was also a wonderful way for the children to learn more about Ethiopian traditions, clothing, music, and cultural celebrations.

This activity supported the development of gross motor skills, confidence, coordination, listening skills, and self-expression. The children were fully engaged and showed great enthusiasm from beginning to end. It was beautiful to see them enjoying the music, embracing the cultural experience, and learning through play in such a joyful environment.

Library

During our library session, the children gathered together to enjoy reading books in a calm and welcoming environment. The children were very excited to explore the books, look at the pictures, and listen carefully during story time. We read books together as a group, and the children participated beautifully by listening, observing the illustrations, and sharing their thoughts and ideas.

Throughout the session, the children showed great interest and curiosity while turning pages, pointing at pictures, and talking about different characters, animals, and objects they saw in the stories. Some children confidently named pictures and repeated familiar words from the book, which helped strengthen their language and communication skills.

Reading together encouraged the children to develop important early literacy skills such as listening, vocabulary building, concentration, and imagination. The library session also supported social development as the children learned to sit together, take turns, and enjoy stories as a group.

The children were calm, focused, and engaged throughout the activity, and it was wonderful to see their excitement and love for books growing.

Math

During our math session, the children explored the concept of wet and dry through a hands-on sensory activity. We provided different wet and dry materials for them to touch, hold, and observe using their hands. The children were very curious and excited to explore the textures and differences between the materials.

As they touched the items, they began describing what they felt by saying words such as “wet,” “dry,” and sometimes even “hot”. Some children were still learning the correct words and needed support, so we repeated the explanations many times to help them understand the difference clearly. Through continuous guidance, questioning, and repetition, the children were gradually able to identify and express their observations with more confidence.

This activity helped the children develop their sensory exploration, language skills, and early math concepts by comparing and identifying different properties of materials in a fun and interactive way.

Science

This week’s science session was a sensory delight! The children participated in an exciting egg hunt experience using clay eggs hidden inside a tray filled with hay. The activity was designed to encourage exploration, curiosity, and hands-on learning while supporting the children’s fine motor and sensory development.

The children gathered around the tray with excitement and carefully searched through the hay to look for the hidden eggs. The eggs were made from clay, giving the children an opportunity to explore different textures, shapes, and materials through touch. As they searched, the children used their hands to move the hay, dig carefully, and discover the hidden objects. They showed great focus, patience, and enthusiasm throughout the activity.

The children enjoyed pretending and using their imagination as they explored the small farm-themed setup with the toy chicken and the hidden eggs. They were excited each time they found an egg and proudly showed their discoveries to their friends and teachers. The activity also encouraged communication and social interaction as the children worked beside one another, shared materials, and talked about what they found.

Through this activity, the children practiced observation skills, problem-solving, and fine motor coordination while strengthening their sensory awareness. It was a joyful and engaging time for all!
