Dear Parents,

We hope you are doing well. This week, our Pre-K classroom has been filled with

exciting learning experiences, meaningful discussions, and hands-on activities

across all subject areas. Our students have been actively engaged in developing

their skills while exploring new topics with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Throughout the week, we focused on building foundational skills in literacy, math,

social studies, and art. The children showed great interest in participating,

sharing their ideas, and working both independently and collaboratively with their

peers.

Please take a moment to read through the highlights below to learn more about

what we have been working on in each subject area.

Large group

‎This week during our large group time, students had a wonderful opportunity to

build on their literacy and math skills in a fun and interactive way. We introduced

a new set of sight words: their, this, down and more. Then, we practiced

recognizing and reading them together. Students also reviewed all previously

learned sight words, showing growing confidence in their reading abilities.

‎In math, we continued revisiting different 3D shapes, helping students strengthen

their understanding by identifying and discussing their features. Alongside this,

our daily caterpillar counting routine remained a favorite, as students eagerly

counted each new segment added while observing how it grows day by day. This

activity also supported their ability to identify and write numbers beyond 100.

‎During our circle time sharing, students enjoyed talking about how they spent

their weekend, practicing their speaking and listening skills while engaging with

their peers. To keep the energy high, we sang our favorite songs together, making

learning joyful and memorable. ‎Overall, it was a week full of meaningful learning,

collaboration, and excitement as students continued to grow in both confidence

and skill.‎

‎Literacy

‎This week in literacy, both groups continued strengthening their reading and

writing skills through a variety of engaging activities. During the first session,

students practiced reading CVC words, while some were also able to extend their

learning by reading simple sentences with growing confidence.

‎In the second session, learning was differentiated to support each group’s

development. One group worked on a hands-on worksheet where they cut out

different beginning sounds and matched them to the correct pictures. After

completing the matching activity, they practiced reading the words they created,

reinforcing their phonics skills.

‎The next group focused on sentence-level understanding. They completed a

worksheet where they read sentences and selected the correct word from a word

bank to complete each sentence, writing it down independently. This activity

helped build their reading comprehension as well as their writing accuracy.

Math

‎This week in math, students were excited to begin a brand-new topic: learning

about time. In the first session, we explored the concept of time by discussing

questions such as “what time is it?” and “how can we tell the time?” Students

learned that in the past, people did not have watches or clocks and instead used

natural clues, like the position of the sun, to understand whether it was daytime

or nighttime. We also discussed different sources of light and how they help us

recognize the time of day.

‎In the second session, students participated in a fun, hands-on activity by

creating their own clock. Using a hula hoop as the clock frame, each student wrote

a number from 1 to 12 on sticky notes and placed them in the correct order. Once

the clock was complete, students practiced reading and identifying different

times, helping them build a foundational understanding of how clocks work.

‎Social Studies

‎This week in social studies, we began an exciting new topic: community and

community helpers. In the first session, students explored what a community is

and discussed how different people have different responsibilities within a

community. We talked about various places such as schools, hospitals, police

stations, and fire stations, and identified the people who work in these places,

including teachers, doctors, police officers, firefighters, and traffic officers.

Students learned how these community helpers support and keep us safe in our

daily lives.

‎In the second session, students engaged in a hands-on group activity where they

worked collaboratively to create their own community structures. Using a variety

of materials, they built models such as hospitals, schools, police stations, and even

fire trucks. This activity not only allowed them to apply their understanding of

community helpers but also supported the development of their vocabulary,

creativity, and teamwork skills.

Art

This week in art, our Pre-K class began a new and exciting project connected to our recent learning about time. Students engaged in a thoughtful discussion about how the sky looks during the daytime and nighttime, sharing their ideas and observations.

‎Inspired by these conversations, our students decided to create a nighttime sky scene on canvas. They started by painting the background black to represent the night sky. Once the paint dried, they used different materials to stamp stars of various sizes across their canvas.

‎Students were highly engaged throughout the process, excitedly sharing their thoughts about the night sky and how it looks. This activity encouraged creativity, imagination, and meaningful connections to our current learning topic!
