Dear Parents,

‎We hope this blog finds you well! This week in Pre-K was exciting, engaging and full of hands-on activities. In math, we focused on simple subtraction and writing numbers. In literacy, we continued practicing digraph words, reading sentences, while the other group worked on reading CVC words.

We also enjoyed journaling, gymnastics, library visits, and science—our students’ favorite subject, where we learned about the continents.  ‎Overall, the class had fun and participated enthusiastically. Our students worked together and independently without competition. Read on for some more details…

‎Large group

‎Our large group time was a blast, as always! Our students love to sit together and sing, read books, have conversations about different topics, complete classroom job responsibilities, and learn from each other. This session helps boost their confidence because they are all sitting together and participating.

‎During this week’s large group sessions, we continued learning about different shapes to reinforce the class’s understanding of this topic. ‎This week’s sight words were “from, if, now, and this.” They caught on so fast and really enjoyed the activity. These sight words help them learn more words for reading simple books.

As always, we completed our calendar activities and classroom caterpillar, along with classroom jobs. For the morning message, we connected it to the day’s activities to give clues and help prepare the children. Our students continue to do amazingly well, and we are very proud of all they have achieved so far!

‎Literacy

‎This week in literacy, our first group focused on strengthening their reading skills through engaging and differentiated activities. During the first session, students practiced reading in ways that supported their individual levels. Some students worked on reading short, simple sentences, building their confidence and fluency, while others focused on decoding and reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words to strengthen their foundational phonics skills.

‎In the second session, students applied their reading skills in a fun and meaningful way through matching activities. Some students read sentences and matched them with the correct pictures, demonstrating their understanding of what they read. Other students read CVC words and matched them with corresponding images, helping them connect words to meaning. These activities supported both comprehension and word recognition, allowing all students to grow as readers at their own pace.

The second group worked on the same idea as last week. In the first session, they practiced reading one-to-one. In the second session, they completed the worksheet and filled in the missing letter e. After they wrote the missing letter, they tried to read the words using the pictures. We will continue this with all the vowel letters in the coming weeks.

‎Math

‎This week in math, our first group focused on developing their understanding of subtraction through hands-on practice. Students worked on subtraction worksheets, where they showed growing confidence and a clearer understanding of the concept of taking away.

‎In addition, students practiced writing numbers while solving subtraction problems, which supported both their math skills and number formation. This combination of solving and writing helped reinforce their learning and allowed them to build accuracy and independence in their work.

For the second group, we worked on writing numbers 1 up to 20. So far, they have completed worksheets, and now they write the numbers by themselves. We also provided a tracing board, and they traced all the numbers up to 20 and beyond to practice.

‎Social studies

‎This week in social studies, our first group continued building their understanding of countries and their identities. In the first session, we revisited different flags and then explored the concept of capital cities. Students learned that each country has many cities, but there is one special city called the capital city. They also practiced talking about the capital city of their home countries, making meaningful connections to their own backgrounds.

‎In the second session, students expressed their learning creatively by drawing and coloring their flags. They thoroughly enjoyed this activity, taking pride in representing their countries while strengthening their fine motor and artistic skills.

Art

This week in Pre-K, we completed another art project on a canvas. This time, our class created their very own butterfly. The idea connects to our daily caterpillar, which counts the days of the school year. We've discussed what would happen as the caterpillar grows bigger, which is that it turns into a butterfly. Then, our students asked to make a butterfly on the canvas using their hands, which everyone agreed would be a great idea!

We painted the background a day before so it could dry. The next day, they chose colors and painted half of their hands with one color and the other half with another color. Then they pressed their hands onto the canvas to make the butterfly shape. Finally, they drew the antennae with black paint, and it turned out fantastically!

They had a great time and loved the final result.
