Happy Birthday Mariam
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to our weekly blog! Here in the Early Preschool class, it has been jam-packed, filled with fun and learning. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy reading our blog!
Large Group
Our large group time starts with a cheerful good morning song that helps everyone feel welcomed and ready for the day. After that, we have a friendly discussion where children share about themselves. We ask simple questions like what they like to eat, their favorite color, and how many friends, brothers, or sisters they have. This helps build confidence and encourages communication among the children.
This week, we began learning about the days of the week. We introduced the days by placing them on the board. To make it fun and interactive, we used a happy face magnet that moves from one day to another. We ask, “what day is today?” and choose one student to come forward and place the happy face on the correct day, such as Monday or Tuesday.
Next, we talk about the weather. We ask questions like, “what is the weather today? Is it sunny or rainy?”. The children look outside to observe the weather, and one student places the correct weather picture on the board, such as a sunny or rainy symbol.
We then take attendance by asking, “who is missing from our circle today?”. This helps children become aware of their classmates and builds a sense of community.
After taking attendance, we read a fun and engaging story, “Where is Spot?” The children enjoyed the colorful illustrations and interactive flaps. They take turns opening the pages and answering questions like, “what color is this?” and “what is the dog looking for?” This activity supports their curiosity and participation.
Finally, we review the rules of the school and classroom to remind everyone how to stay safe and respectful. We end our large group time by singing a song about the days of the week, which helps reinforce what they learned in a fun and memorable way.
Art
In our art session this week, we continued working on our canvas projects that we began last week by creating the background. This time, we added more detail by drawing different shapes on the canvas using a pencil, making the outlines clearly visible for the children.
We gathered in the art room and sat together in a circle. We showed the canvas to the children and asked, “what do you see?” The children were very observant and excited, sharing answers like “I see a shape,” “a square,” and “a circle.” This discussion helped them recognize and name different shapes.
Next, we invited students to participate by taking turns. We selected two children at a time and gave them glue, encouraging them to carefully follow the lines of the shapes. They listened attentively and did an amazing job staying on the lines.
To make the activity more engaging, we used different materials. The children placed pom-poms along the circle shapes and used pasta pieces to fill in the square shapes. They were very excited, focused, and actively involved throughout the activity.
This session supported many important skills, including fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, patience, turn-taking, teamwork, and creativity. The children showed great enthusiasm and concentration as they worked.
Since we did not finish the activity, we continued it during free choice time in the morning. This allowed the children to explore the process at their own pace. They were proud of their work, talking about the shapes they created, including circles, squares, and even stars.
Literacy
Our literacy session this week was a very successful and exciting learning experience. We were especially happy to see a big improvement in the children’s participation and understanding.
For this activity, we introduced matching pictures related to familiar animals and their products. We provided images of a hen, a cow, and a bee, along with matching pictures of an egg, milk, and honey. The pictures were laminated, mixed together, and placed in front of the children.
We invited the children one by one to come forward and find the correct matches. They were encouraged to think carefully and connect each animal with what it gives us. The children did an amazing job—many of them were able to match correctly, even beyond our expectations. It was wonderful to see their confidence growing.
After that, we moved to the board for a matching activity. The pictures were displayed on the board like a slide, and the children came up one by one to match them correctly. They really enjoyed coming forward, choosing the right picture, and placing it in the correct spot on the board. This made the activity more interactive and engaging.
This session supported important literacy and thinking skills, including vocabulary development, recognition, matching, critical thinking, and communication. The children were also able to talk about their ideas and explain their choices, which made the learning even more meaningful.
Gymnastics
Our gymnastics session this week was full of energy, movement, and excitement. The focus of the activity was on rolling and flipping, helping children explore how their bodies move in a safe and fun way.
We began the session with warm-up exercises to prepare their bodies. The children participated actively, showing great enthusiasm as they stretched and moved. This helped them get ready physically and reduced the risk of injury.
After the warm-up, we set up two mattresses together to create a soft and safe space for practicing. We first demonstrated the movements, showing the children how to roll and how to do simple flips. The children watched carefully as we explained each step.
Then, we invited the children to take turns and try the movements themselves. They were very excited and eager to participate. Since we have practiced this activity a few times before, the children showed noticeable improvement. They were more confident and had a better understanding of how their bodies move. Many of them were able to roll and attempt flipping with greater control and balance.
Throughout the activity, we supported and guided them as needed, helping them feel safe and encouraged. The children were engaged, active, and happy to try again and again.
This gymnastics activity is very important for developing physical skills such as balance, coordination, flexibility, and body awareness. It also supports confidence, courage, and turn-taking as the children wait for their turn and cheer for their friends.
The children are becoming more comfortable and confident with their movements, and it is wonderful to see their progress each time we practice!
Math
Our activity this week focused on understanding the concept of big and small, and it was such a delightful experience for the children. We started by introducing different objects of various sizes and asking the children simple questions like, “which one is big?” and “which one is small?” This helped them begin to observe and compare.
We then moved on to a hands-on activity where the children were given a mix of big and small items. They were encouraged to sort them into two groups: big and small. Everyone was very excited and actively participated. Some children quickly understood the difference, while others took their time exploring and learning through practice.
Throughout the activity, we supported them by repeating the words “big” and “small,” helping to build their vocabulary and confidence. It was wonderful to see them learning from each other and celebrating their small successes. The session was very enjoyable and meaningful. The children did a great job, and it was lovely to see their understanding grow through play and interaction.
