Dear parents,
We hope this blog finds you well! Here in the Infants and Toddlers class, it has been a wonderful, busy few weeks. Our students enjoyed their activities, and we are very happy to keep supporting and working with all of you. Every day, we make sure to check on each child’s progress and well-being, and we truly enjoy the time we spend with them! Please enjoy some highlights from the last two weeks…
Large group
Large group time over the past two weeks have been delightful, engaging sessions with our students. We began by singing our “Hello” song, waving our hands, and greeting each child by name with a cheerful “good morning”. After that, we took attendance, and the children practiced sticking their own pictures on the attendance chart. This week, we also introduced a new song called “We’ve Got a Friend.” The children were very excited when we called their names, they stood in the middle, danced, and tried singing along. They really enjoyed the movement and are getting better at practicing the song. To finish, we counted the number of children present and explored an interactive book together, which kept everyone engaged and curious. It was a fun and meaningful group time for all.
Gymnastics
During gymnastics class, we introduced an exciting ring and cone coordination activity. The children practiced their gross-motor and hand-eye coordination skills by matching a yellow ring onto a cone. They first took turns one by one, carefully placing the ring and celebrating each success. After that, they worked in pairs, encouraging each other and cooperating to complete the task. The students were thrilled, and showed great teamwork and focus throughout the activity.
Washing Toys
Our infants and toddlers students recently had a tactile adventure washing toys! We were glad to see that each student was engaged and enthusiastic throughout this activity. First, we prepared cups with water, small internal materials, soap, and sponges. The children enjoyed dipping the sponge into the soapy water and washing the items carefully. They practiced scrubbing, squeezing, and rinsing, and they washed everything thoroughly. They also shared the sponges and soap nicely with one another, taking turns and helping their friends. It was a fun sensory activity that supported their independence and cooperation.
Art
During our most recent art session, the children explored an activity using string-wrapped blocks. Each child first chose their favorite paint color. Then, using a wooden block wrapped with string, they dipped it into the paint and stamped it onto the canvas. This process created beautiful textured patterns and allowed the children to experiment with color, repetition, and design. The children were absolutely enthralled seeing the different prints they could create with each stamp.
In the following week’s art session, the children explored a flour silhouette activity. We placed different animal figurines on the canvas, and the children used a sifter to gently sprinkle flour over them. When the animals were lifted, their shapes appeared clearly as white flour silhouettes on the canvas. The children enjoyed the sensory experience of shaking the flour and were excited to see the hidden animal shapes revealed. This activity supported their creativity, fine-motor skills, and shape recognition.
Science
During our latest science activity, we explored different textures. The children used their hands to touch a variety of materials and experienced how each one felt. We talked about the words soft and hard, and the children repeated the vocabulary as they touched each item. They were very engaged, using their senses to compare the textures and describe what they felt. This activity helped them build language skills, sensory awareness, and early science observation skills.
Math
During math class, we set up a hands-on counting activity using play-dough, sticks, and macaroni. First, we demonstrated how to place the stick into the play-dough and then how to count and thread the macaroni pieces onto the stick. The children quickly understood the steps and immediately began counting as they added each piece. When one stick became full, they excitedly asked for more and continued the activity with another stick. The whole class enjoyed this experience, and we were so glad to see their curiosity and excitement blossoming!
