Dear parents,
We hope you had a pleasant week. Our Early Pre-K students enjoyed another engaging week filled with hands-on activities, creativity, and exciting learning opportunities. Throughout the week, the children participated in experiences designed to strengthen their early math understanding, support cognitive development, encourage positive social skills, and spark their curiosity through active exploration. We are excited to share a few special moments from our classroom this week!
Large Group
During large group time, the children practiced building their confidence and language skills by sharing stories about their weekends with the class. Each child had the chance to share their ideas to their classmates, communicate their ideas, and listen attentively while others shared. It was wonderful to see their happiness and enthusiasm as they spoke about family activities, outings, and memorable experiences. This activity encouraged the development of speaking and listening abilities while also helping the children feel more connected as a classroom community.
In addition, the class reviewed Zoo Phonics and participated in activities focused on learning shapes. The children eagerly practiced letter sounds using fun body movements and actions that made learning enjoyable and easy to remember. During shape exploration, they identified and named familiar shapes and related them to items they see in their surroundings. The classroom was filled with excitement, participation, and positive energy, and we are proud to see the children becoming more confident and actively involved in group activities.
Math
This week in our math session, the children transformed the school compound into a lively mini market filled with excitement, creativity, and hands-on learning. The students took on different roles as shopkeepers and customers, using classroom materials as items to buy and sell. Through this fun role-play activity, the children practiced counting money, identifying numbers, and understanding the value of items while engaging in meaningful conversations with their peers. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they exchanged items, asked questions, and worked together during the activity.
The mini market experience also helped strengthen the children’s understanding of comparing numbers using greater than (>) and less than (<) signs. As they counted and compared prices and quantities, the children explored which numbers were bigger or smaller in a practical and enjoyable way. We are very proud of the enthusiasm and participation the children showed throughout this engaging learning experience.
Science
This week in our science session, the children participated in an exciting hands-on activity using a “Mysterious Box.” The children eagerly took turns reaching into the box, pulling out different objects, and carefully observing each item. Through group discussions and guided questions, they explored the characteristics of living and non-living things. The children learned that living things grow, breathe, move, and need food and water, while non-living things do not. They enjoyed sorting the objects into the correct categories and sharing their ideas with their classmates.
This activity encouraged the children to think critically, make observations, and develop their communication skills as they explained why they placed each object in a certain group. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they discovered similarities and differences between the items. The session also helped strengthen teamwork, confidence, and early science concepts through playful learning. We are proud of the children’s enthusiasm and active participation throughout this engaging science experience.
Literacy
This week during our literacy session, the children took part in a fun and meaningful hands-on activity where they created cookies shaped like the beginning letters of their names. The children started from scratch by exploring the baking process step by step. They helped mix the raw ingredients, kneaded the dough, and carefully prepared it for shaping. This exciting experience encouraged the children to follow directions, work together, and strengthen their fine motor skills while learning through play.
Once the dough was ready, the children used it creatively to form the first letters of their names. They were excited to recognize and build their own beginning letters, helping them develop early literacy and letter recognition skills in an engaging way. The activity also encouraged confidence, independence, and creativity as the children proudly shared their letter cookies with their classmates. It was a joyful learning experience that combined literacy, sensory exploration, and teamwork in a memorable and delicious way!
They also children explored beginning sounds through a playful and engaging “Feed the Tiger” activity using a tiger puppet. As the children identified pictures with the correct beginning sounds, they carefully fed them to the tiger while excitedly interacting with the puppet. The activity brought lots of laughter and joy, with many children jokingly saying, “don’t eat me, tiger!” as they took turns participating. Through this hands-on experience, the children strengthened their phonemic awareness, listening, and sound recognition skills in a fun and memorable way. It was wonderful to see their confidence and excitement grow throughout the activity.
Art
This week in our art session, the children proudly worked on finalizing their beautiful masterpieces in preparation for our upcoming art auction. With great excitement and creativity, they carefully added finishing touches to their artwork, paying close attention to colors, details, and presentation. Throughout the session, the children demonstrated patience, focus, and confidence as they reflected on the hard work they have put into their creations over the past weeks. It was wonderful to see each child express their unique ideas and artistic style through their work.
The classroom was filled with enthusiasm as the children shared their artwork with friends and talked about the inspiration behind their pieces. This experience not only strengthened their creativity and fine motor skills but also encouraged self-expression, pride, and a sense of accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of the effort and imagination shown by every child, and we look forward to showcasing their amazing artwork during the upcoming art auction.
