Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful week full of fun activities, new experiences, and exciting discoveries! The children enjoyed learning through play, exploring different materials, singing songs, and trying new things. Let’s take a look at some of the special moments we shared this week!

Large Group

We started our large group time by sitting together in a big circle. We greeted each other and talked about our morning, giving the children time to share their thoughts and experiences. We sang our Good Morning song and reviewed our classroom rules to remind everyone how to keep our classroom safe, friendly, and happy.

Next, we talked about the weather, the days of the week, and attendance. We also practiced our ZooPhonics letters and their sounds and counted from 1 to 10. The children had opportunities to participate, share their ideas, and learn together.

During our Message Board time, we talked about our color-mixing activity. We asked the children what they thought would happen when we mixed different colors and what new colors we might discover. The children shared their ideas and made predictions before trying the activity themselves. It was a great way to encourage their curiosity and thinking skills!

Small Group Activities

Math

In our math session, we explored AB patterns using colorful pom-poms and bears. First, we talked about patterns and explained that a pattern repeats in the same order. We showed the children an example using one pom-pom, one bear, one pom-pom, and one bear.

After watching the demonstration, the children had a chance to make their own patterns. They took turns arranging the pom-poms and bears and practiced repeating the sequence in the correct order. They enjoyed working with the materials and did a great job recognizing and continuing the patterns. Through this activity, the children practiced observing, sorting, following sequences, and developing their early math skills.

Music

We had a lovely time singing songs and playing musical instruments together. The children chose their favorite instruments, including guitars, xylophones, and shakers. They enjoyed trying the instruments and listening to the different sounds they could make.

We also sang some of our favorite songs, including Five Little Monkeys, The Wheels on the Bus, the Counting Numbers song, Little Bunny, and Bingo. The children sang along, moved to the music, and enjoyed making their own sounds with the instruments.

It was a happy and lively session where the children had fun while practicing listening, movement, and self-expression.

Science

This week, we made our own playdough! Before we started, we talked about how to make playdough and what ingredients we would need. The children shared their ideas and talked about foods they could make using flour, such as pizza and pancakes.

Next, the children put on their art smocks and received their own plates. Using spoons, they scooped flour onto their plates, added water and oil, and mixed everything together. They enjoyed touching the flour, noticing its texture, and exploring its smell as they worked. Little by little, the ingredients came together to form soft dough.

Once the dough was ready, the children added their favorite food coloring and experimented with different colors. They enjoyed mixing, squeezing, and shaping their homemade playdough. At the end of the session, the children were excited to take their playdough home and show it to their parents. Through this hands-on activity, they explored textures, smells, colors, and how different ingredients change when mixed together.

Library

During our library session, we read A Day at the Beach, a counting book that introduces numbers from 1 to 20 through a fun beach adventure. As we read, the children counted different things they could see at the beach, including fish, crabs, clouds, and seashells. We counted together and looked carefully at the pictures. This gave the children a chance to practice counting, recognize numbers, and learn new words while enjoying the colorful illustrations.

After reading, the children explored the library and chose their favorite books. Each child took a book home to enjoy with their parents. It was a lovely opportunity to encourage their interest in books and make reading part of their time at home.

Art

During our art session, we talked about primary colors and what happens when we mix them together. Then, we went to our art studio, put on our art smocks, and chose our papers and paints. The children used brushes to put different colors of paint onto their papers. As they experimented, they discovered that mixing red and blue makes purple, while mixing red and yellow makes orange. They enjoyed choosing their colors, mixing the paints, and exploring the different colors with their hands. There was plenty of excitement as the children tried different combinations and watched new colors appear. After finishing our artwork, we worked together to clean the art area and wash our hands. It was a fun, colorful experience that encouraged the children to be creative, explore, and learn through doing.

Literacy

During our literacy session, we reviewed our ZooPhonics letters from A to Z. We practiced each letter’s sound and action together before starting our matching activity. We placed the large phonics letters on the mat and invited the children to choose the smaller letters and match them with the corresponding large letters. The children enjoyed looking at the letters, finding their matches, and practicing what they had learned. After completing the activity, we sang our favorite phonics song together. The children joined in with the sounds and actions, making the session even more enjoyable.
