Dear Parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! Our week in Pre-K was filled with exciting learning including counting, letters, science, and art. The children had a wonderful time exploring new concepts, participating in hands-on activities, and learning through play. Let’s take you through some of the highlights from our week…

 Large group

This week, our large group time in the pre-K class went well. After the Family Day project, the students were still excited to talk about it during our large-group discussion. We then continued our usual routine in a fun way. The students did a great job taking care of their responsibilities and really enjoyed their time.

We also continued working on our two shapes from the previous week: heptagon and octagon. Since these shapes can be a little tricky, we continued reviewing them during our large group. Overall, our large group session went smoothly and was fun, especially with our music breaks in between.

Literacy

This week in our literacy class, we started learning about vowels. In our first session, we discussed the five vowels in the alphabet and the sounds they make. Our children also tried to identify the vowels in their names and among the letters. In our second session, we revised what vowels are, then found and colored the vowels among different letters. This helped them recognize and identify the vowel letters.

Math

This week in math, we started learning missing numbers. In the previous weeks, we have been practicing tracing numbers, identifying, and writing them independently. So, this week, we worked on missing numbers. In our first session, we introduced the meaning of missing numbers and did some examples on our whiteboard using number cards. Our children tried to identify the missing numbers and fill in the gaps. In our second session, after revising missing numbers, our children worked on a worksheet to identify and fill in the missing numbers. This also encouraged them to count and identify numbers more confidently.

Science

In our science class this week, we learned about changes in matter, specifically how ice changes. Weeks before Family Day, when we were learning about healthy and unhealthy foods, we grouped ice cream as one of unhealthy foods. The children asked how ice cream is made, and one of them answered the question well and we decided to explore the topic further. In our first session, we discussed what ice is made of and what would happen if we put ice in the sun. We put water in an ice tray and placed it in the freezer, planning to take it out with our children during our next class. In our second session, we observed the ice right out of the freezer. Some children placed their ice outside in the sun, while others placed theirs in the shade. We then watched the ice as it melted, and it was fun discussing the changes with our children.

Art

This week for art in pre-K, we explored how paper can change through tearing and creating. We provided the children with colorful sheets of paper, glue, and drawing paper. First, the children practiced tearing the paper into small pieces using the scissors. Then, they used their creativity to arrange and glue the pieces onto their drawing paper to create their own beautiful artwork. Through this hands-on activity, the children explored how one large piece of paper can become many smaller pieces while developing their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity. They also learned that materials can change in size and shape.
