From Time to Community: A Week Full of Growth and Fun!

Dear Parents,

‎We hope this message finds you well! This week in Pre-K was fun, engaging, and full of exciting activities. In math, we focused on “about time.” In literacy, we continued practicing reading sentences, while the other group worked on reading CVC words. We also enjoyed journaling, gymnastics, library visits, and social studies. In social studies, we learned about the community.

‎We are glad to see how students worked together and independently without competition. Read on for some more details…

‎‎Large Group

‎Our large group sessions were so much fun, as always! Our students love to sit together and sing, read books, have conversations about different topics, complete classroom job responsibilities, and learn from each other. This session helps boost their confidence because they are all sitting together and participating.

During our large group this week, we continued learning about different shapes each day—two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional shapes. This helps them remember the different shapes, so they won’t forget them.  ‎This week’s sight words were “other, number, you, and day.” They learned the sight words so quickly. These sight words help them learn more words for reading simple books.

As always, we completed our calendar activities and our caterpillar work, along with classroom jobs. For the morning message, since some of our students can read independently, they are reading it for the class by taking turns each day.

‎Our students continue to do amazingly well, and we are very proud of all they have achieved so far.

‎‎Math

‎This week, for math, our Pre-K class learned about time. As we know, this topic was started last week, and they really enjoyed it during our previous math sessions.

‎This week, in the first session, we discussed the activities we do during the day and at night. Students mentioned many different things. Then, in the second session, we gave them a paper with a line in the middle. They drew night-time activities on one side, including what the sky looks like. They did the same on the other side for day-time activities.  ‎This helps them understand time in more detail.

‎‎Literacy

This week in literacy, our first group had the opportunity to strengthen their reading skills by reading a variety of sentences, both in groups and individually. They showed great confidence and enthusiasm as they practiced. In the second session, students worked on a hands-on worksheet activity where they read sentences and completed them by cutting and sticking the missing word. It was wonderful to see the progress they are making, as many students were able to complete the task with increased independence and accuracy.

‎In the second group, during the first session, we continued practicing the CVC words as we did in past weeks. Our students in this group are still finding it a bit challenging, but are trying their best, which we are proud to see. ‎In the second session, we provided them with a worksheet to read and circle the correct pictures. This helped them, even if they struggled with reading at first, because the pictures guided them to read. They did a wonderful job! ‎After they finished, they colored the pictures.

‎‎Social Studies

‎This week in Social Studies, we continued exploring the topic of community helpers and their importance in our daily lives. In our first session, we had meaningful discussions about how different community helpers support us and keep our community running smoothly. We also emphasized that students themselves are important members of the community, helping them feel valued and responsible. We introduced new community helpers such as pharmacists, nurses, farmers, and cleaners. The students were highly engaged, eagerly sharing their own experiences and perspectives.

‎In our second session, students participated in an exciting hands-on activity with three different role-play stations. The first station was a fire station, where students explored firefighter roles using fire extinguishers, outfits, and helmets. The second station was a hospital, complete with doctor tools and a patient bed, allowing students to act out caregiving roles. The third station was a bank, where students used play money, a laptop, papers, and pencils to explore real-life scenarios. Students had the opportunity to rotate through all three stations, take on different roles, and use their creativity and imagination while learning through play.

Art

This week in Pre-K art, our students explored creativity and teamwork through a fun melted crayon project. Before starting the artwork, the students listened to a story about a crayon box that could talk. Through the story, they learned that every color is important and that when all the colors work together, they can create something beautiful.

Inspired by the story, the students decided they wanted to create their own artwork using crayons. We began by painting the canvas background white. Then, the students carefully selected and attached different crayons onto the canvas. After everything was ready, the students took turns using a blow dryer to melt the crayons. They were delighted to watch the colors melt and drip across the canvas, creating a beautiful and colorful masterpiece together! This activity was a wonderful combination of art, creativity, teamwork, and exploring cause and effect.
