Dear Family, how have you all been? Happy holidays to those celebrating! We had such an amazing week, starting with our post Family Day chats and reflections, all the way to the very anticipated soccer match with ICS. It has been a week full of excitement, sharing, and active moments. Read on as we take you through our Week 29 adventure, bit by bit…

Large Group

As usual, we started our week by reflecting on our Family Day moments. We asked our children how their day went, what they enjoyed the most, and the best moment they could remember. Their responses were thoughtful, exciting, and full of joy (shared below with their names). Along with our regular large group routines, our main focus this week was number identification. We wrote different digits on the board, and taking turns, our children listened carefully as their friends called out numbers for them to find and circle. This activity was both fun and interactive, helping strengthen their number recognition skills while also giving us a clear understanding of where each child is in their math learning journey.

“It was cool. When I ate the ice cream it became the best. I went to the trampoline with Lubono and made an ocean in the sand box with Samuel and I went home after him.” -Solomon

“At the new compound I played with Dibo on the spinning thing. I ate two ice creams. I showed my parents the space center and land forms” -Liyat

“My mom didn’t see my bean plant but she saw the land forms and the space center. I was at the spinning in the other compound with Yadon and I had only little of iceacream” -Kian

“I have match that’s why I didn’t come to school.” -Ismael

“I eat one ice cream then I make ocean with Solomon. I show land forms, space center, and picture” -Samuel

“Me and my sister Betselot. My mommy saw volcano and plain and desert and space center with Betselot” -Yemariam

“Yemariam my sister and my mommy in space center” -Betselot

“I eat two ice creams and then I ran around and I was helping and giving water to Solomon and Samuel when they make the ocean. With my mom i showed her my beans and she eat it and then I showed her the landforms and told her all the land forms and also the space center” -Leul

“I was playing in the new compound. And I ate 3 pizza and 3 ice cream and after that my dad see the space center, my classroom, the landforms and then he was very proud.” -Yadon

“When we come first I showed them the space center and the land forms but they didn’t see the bean plant. My daddy really loved the space center very much. And I had 3 ice creams like Yadon.” -Lubono

Literacy

In our first session of Literacy this week, we introduced a bowl filled with different words and simple sentences. Each child took turns picking a paper and reading it aloud to their friends, building confidence in their reading skills while making it an exciting group activity. For our second session, we used the same set of papers in a more hands on way. Our children read their chosen words and sentences again, then explored their alphabet books by identifying the beginning letters. They searched for the correct alphabet page and wrote the words under the matching letter, connecting reading with writing in a meaningful way. This helped strengthen their reading, letter recognition, and word building skills all at once.

“How is Yadon reading it all so fast? Let me try now let it be my turn” -Solomon

“This is rabbit not bunny. Don’t look at the pictures only. READ!” -Leul

“I’m reading it correctly” -Kian

“I’m also reading and circling” -Lubono

“This is easy” -Yemariam

Math

To revisit our learning on even and odd numbers, we took a more interactive approach in math this week. Our children were given worksheets where they cut out different numbers using scissors and carefully sorted them into the correct categories. They identified whether each number was even or odd and then pasted it under the right heading, placing even numbers below even and odd numbers below odd. This activity was not only fun but also helped reinforce their understanding through cutting, sorting, and classifying.

“Solomon, even if you learned it in America I finished before you and everyone today you see” -Leul

“I said I learned it in America because I know about it but we don’t do cutting and sticking there. That’s why you’re faster than me” -Solomon

“There’s no scissor in America? Wow!” -Yadon

“Of course there’s scissors there. That’s where my daddy buy it from” -Liyat

“Even today also I finish second. Last time it was me and Solomon this time it is me and Leul” -Lubono

“I have scissor at home. I do my homework” -Samuel

“78 is even” -Ismael

“This even yes?” -Betselot

Science

Our science sessions took an exciting turn this week as we introduced our children to human anatomy and what’s inside our bodies. We began with the classic “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” song to get them moving and thinking about body parts. To make it more fun, we played a game called “We Listen, We Don’t Copy”. In this game, the teacher would say one body part but point to a different one, and they had to listen carefully and point to the correct part instead of copying what they saw. They absolutely loved the challenge and stayed very focused! We then sat together for a group discussion about what might be inside our bodies, and to our surprise, our children already had so many ideas to share. Building on their thoughts, we focused on learning about the brain and the heart this week, along with a fun human anatomy song break. It was a wonderful introduction that sparked curiosity and excitement to learn more about how our bodies work!

“Our brain is pink and it helps you think. I saw it in the body part book at home . And the heart pumps blood” -Lubono

“The brain look like peach color. And the skin is long it reaches to here (pointing at her toes)” -Liyat

“Skeleton” -Yemariam (about what the body would look like without skin)

“The brain looks like worms” -Yadon

“It actually looks like worms combined. And that white thing that looks like your body is your soul” -Solomon

“I have a body part book too. When you’re in the hospital you can hear your heart beating” -Kian

“No that’s our hip” -Samuel (lookin at one of the bones)

“Heart” -Leul (when asked what’s in the chest)

Art

This week’s art session was both fun and nostalgic! We introduced our children to DVD/CD discs and talked about how people used to watch movies and play video games using them. It was exciting to hear that some of the children already had ideas about what they were. After discussing their uses, we agreed to turn each disc into something creative; our very own movie or video game design. Each child received a disc and, using paints and brushes, transformed it into unique pieces of art inspired by their imagination. Their conversations, ideas, and thoughtful creativity made the session truly special. Every child created something different and proudly shared their work with the group; it was amazing to see their confidence and creativity shine!

“I’m making a colorful sun on my CD” -Yadon

“Phi, I’m also making sun and there will a Dino here on this side” -Samuel

“When I make the transformer with paint it’s hard but when I do it with a normal pencil and papers it’s super easy” -Solomon

“I’m making a Chinese movie but it’s in English. They speak Chinese but you hear English from other people” -Liyat

“My transformer has two legs in a matrix and it’s a million years old transformer” -Kian

“My super super blaster is 100 thousand years old it’s the oldest” -Lubono

“I’m making a jungle movie like the one I watched at home and I will sell my CD in America and they will love it” -Leul

“I making the sun. You can’t see” -Yemariam

“This is super hero flying” -Ismael

Football Moments

The very anticipated friendly football match between our school and ICS was the highlight of the week! Our little athletes were brimming with enthusiasm and energy, ready to showcase their skills on the field. They gave it their all, running, passing, and scoring goals with infectious joy. It was a sight to behold, and the roar of the cheering team only fueled our children’s competitive spirit.
